April 2011 Tornados Waiver Due to the severe weather of April 15th and 27th, the Department of Transportation, in order to assist the timber industry in the removal of storm damaged timber, hereby designates specific routes for a limited waiver of the requirements set forth in Section 32-9-20 of the Code of Alabama. This waiver is for the movement of vehicles or combination of vehicles and load that are transporting damaged timber to mills or storage areas in Central and North Alabama. This waiver expires on July 22,2011. To qualify for this waiver, (I) a vehicle must fall within the requirements listed below, (2) the vehicle operator must produce on request a copy of this memo and attached maps, (3) the vehicle operator must produce on request a Professional Logging Manager (PLM) number that has been registered for the harvesting of storm damaged timber and (4) the vehicle must be on a designated route.

  8. Weight of Vehicles Transporting Timber Vehicles With 5 or 6 Axles and Outer Bridge Spans Between 40 ft. (Inclusive) and 51 ft: • The maximum Gross Vehicle Weight shall not exceed 90,000lbs. • No single axle shall exceed 20,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 2 axles shall exceed 40,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 3 axles shall exceed 48,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance.

Weight of Vehicles Transporting Timber Vehicles With 5 or 6 Axles and Outer Bridge Spans of 51 ft or More: • The maximum Gross Vehicle Weight shall not exceed 95,000lbs. • No single axle shall exceed 20,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 2 axles shall exceed 40,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 3 axles shall exceed 48,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance.

  10. Weight of Vehicles Transporting Timber Vehicles With 4 Axles With Outer Bridge Spans of 43ft or More: • The maximum Gross Vehicle Weight shall not exceed 80,000lbs. • No single axle shall exceed 20,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 2 axles shall exceed 40,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance. • No group of 3 axles shall exceed 48,000lbs in weight plus scale tolerance.
