  7. Mission Statement The INQUIRE Academy exists to meet the needs of the gifted and high achieving students by initiating new quests for understanding through innovative and rigorous exploration, resulting in students who are knowledgeable, caring, and prepared to make an impact on the world.

What we believe about instruction for GT & High Achieving Students … • Every student has their own strengths & talents. • Students should have opportunities to work in an independent, self-paced fashion and also work collaboratively with classmates. • As our future leaders, students must be able to communicate, problem-solve, and think critically. • Technology should be utilized as a tool for communication, information-seeking, and presentation. • Students should have the opportunity to make decisions about their learning and how to apply it.

What we believe about instruction for GT & High Achieving Students … • Instruction should focus on the whole learner – emotional growth, social growth, and academic growth are the goals. • Rigorous instruction implies deeper levels of thinking, not simply more work. • Meeting the needs of learners requires flexibility in academic pathways, both in the classroom and in the program.

What Parents Should Know About Acceleration … The impact of the new state testing system on HS classes in MS is still unknown Taking advanced classes in MS may impact participation in HS programs like Hammond-Oliver and IB Increased acceleration may lead to an early graduation Questions? JLMS Daily Schedule • School Begins @ 8:05 AM • Breakfast Served 7:20-8:05 AM • Report to Classrooms @ 8:00 AM • 7 Classes + Curriculum Enrichment = 8 Period Day • Separate Passing Period for 6th Grade • Lunch Schedule – 4 lunches • 10:58am – 12:58pm • School Ends @ 3:45 PM • Tutorials, Practices & Activities • 4:00-5:00

  18. Transportation • Buses arrive between 7:30 and 8:15 AM • Afternoon buses load between 3:45 and 4:10 PM on north side of building • JLMS car traffic should pick-up and drop-off in the front • Walkers leave from south side of building • Students will be transported to/from their home school on a shuttle (Last to Arrive & First to Leave Each Day)

Dual Language & INQUIRE • Students may participate in both academies • Dual Language Academy is offered in 6th, 7th & 8th grades for students previously participating in the Dual Language Program • Two Courses conducted in Spanish in each grade level: • Social Studies • Spanish Language Arts (1 HS Foreign Language Credit per year)
