  2. Agenda • Welcome / Announcements – (5 minutes) • Attendance – (5 minutes) • Review syllabus and daily classroom procedures – (50 minutes) • Questions and Concerns – (5 minutes) • Summarize today’s activities and discuss tomorrow’s outlook. - (5 minutes)

  3. What is this class? (see syllabus) • This course is designed to assist students in developing skills needed to be successful leaders and responsible members of society. • You will develop personal attributes and social skills. Emphasis will be placed on interpersonal skills, team building, communication, personal development, and leadership.

  4. Why do I have to take this class? • This is an elective class. However, if you plan to be employed at any point in time, this class will be beneficial to you. • You also need 7 elective credits to graduate. This course can potentially earn you 1 full credit. • ½ credit this trimester, ½ credit next trimester

  5. So…..what will we do in here? • Explore the ins and outs of skills needed to be successful in the workplace. • Determine education or training required in various jobs in the career clusters. • Enhance your career goals using aptitude tests • Complete a career portfolio. • Discuss forms and tools necessary for survival for adults.

  6. Will this class be hard? • This class is a very intense, hands on course. We will have lectures and activities that you will be required to watch outside of class time. Class will be spent completing assignments that correspond directly to the online lecture.

  7. What do I need for this class? • Pen / Pencil • Notebook or Binder for Interactive Notebook • Folder • Not necessary if your notebook or binder has folders • USB drive (recommended, but not necessary) Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer will result in 20 extra credit points for each item brought in.

  8. What are the expectations? • Arrive to class with all personal needs taken care of and in your seat before the tardy bell rings (You are only allowed 2 hall passes during the trimester and you must have your agenda). • Come to class prepared to learn(Pencils sharpened, materials in hand, and lecture watched and reading completed). • Respect all property in the class (School property, your property, and other people’s property). • Respect all ideas given in class and do not criticize anyone’s thoughts or ideas.

  9. Daily Procedures ALL SCHOOL RULES APPLY IN THIS CLASSROOM. • No Cell phones, I-Pods, Earphones, etc • Dress code must be followed EVERY SINGLE DAY.

  10. Tardy Policy • At the sound of the FIRST bell that signifies the start of class, the door will be shut. At that point in time, you will need to report to Tardy Hall. • You will remain in Tardy Hall for the remainder of the period. It is your responsibility to come to me AFTER or BEFORE school and collect the work that you missed. • Tardy Hall will meet in the small cafeteria during 2nd period. • You will also have 3 employability points deducted for each tardy.

Daily Procedures • We begin EACH day with a bell ringer that is located on the Smart Board using PowerPoint. • You are responsible for completing EVERY bell ringer. • Each bell ringer will be worth 5 points, for a total of 25 points each week. • The bell ringers will vary from day to day, but mainly focusing on consumer math and employability skills. • Each day a random student will be asked to answer the bell ringer on the Smart Board. • These are turned in EVERY Friday for a total of 25 points.

  12. Daily Procedures • I dismiss you everyday – once we have SUMMARIZED the activities and homework. • Remain in your seat until the dismissal bell rings. If everyone is not in a seat, we WILL NOT dismiss. • Your work area must be CLEAN and in order before we dismiss. PLEASE ACTIVELY LISTEN WHEN I AM SPEAKING. Respect is the most important aspect to my classroom procedures. If you respect me, my classroom, and your classmates – you will receive respect in return.

  13. Daily Procedures • When computer access is granted, you must log-in with your PERSONAL USERNAME and PASSWORD. • Computer backgrounds and settings WILL NOT be changed.

  14. How will I be graded? • Grades will be based upon: • Quizzes – 10% • Employability Points – 15% • Classroom Notes – 15% • Daily Activities – 20% • Projects / Presentations – 20% • Tests – 20%

  15. Employability Points • Employability Skills estimates 15% (300 points) of your final grade during this class. You start out with 300 hundred points and the number beside each of the following offenses subtracts from your 300 points throughout the trimester. Points will be deducted on my clipboard and recorded in Infinite Campus every three weeks.

  17. Daily Activities / Quizzes • Every single day you will be assessed and receive a grade for some activity throughout the day. These points may range from 20 to 80 points depending upon the activity.

  18. Projects / Tests • After each Chapter and/or Unit you will complete a summative assessment either in the form of a test or project to test your understanding. These assessments may range from 100 – 200 points.

  19. Interactive Notebook • EVERYTHING in your Interactive Notebook will be graded at ONE TIME!! Everything that we put in there, will be assessed with every 3 - 4 weeks for a 150 – 200 point grade.

  20. Bell Ringers • Each day you will complete a bell ringer for 5 daily points. These will be collected at the end of each week for a weekly grade.

  21. Where Do I Turn in Work? • All work is turned in to the 2nd period tray or Edmodo (online classroom). Please do not give work to me or keep it in your folder.

  24. Classroom Jobs – Extra Credit Opportunities • Attendance Keeper (100 points) – • Student will record attendance on clipboard daily. Student may not miss more than 3 days before being removed from this position. • Paper Passer Outer (100 points) – • Student is responsible for handing back papers to students at the end of the period each day. Student may not miss more than 3 days before being removed from this position. • Classroom Manager (100 points) – • Student is responsible for assisting students that were absent the previous day retrieve their work from the classroom website. • Bell Ringer Collector (50 points) – • Student is responsible for collecting bell ringers from everyone each Friday and place in the tray. Student may not miss more than 3 days before being removed from this position. • Grade Recorder (50 points) – • Student is responsible for recording grades as needed from classmates on the clipboard. Student may not miss more than 3 days before being removed from this position.

Housekeeping Procedures • What if the fire alarm sounds while in class? • We will exit through Exit 29 meet as a class directly outside by the light pole, so attendance can be taken. • What if the tornado alarm sounds while in class? • We will meet as a class in the girl’s PE locker room and take cover. • What if the earthquake alarm sounds while in class? • We will crawl under our desk and cover our heads!

Housekeeping Procedures • What if the intruder alarm sounds while in class? • We will turn out all lights and gather at the front of the room and remain silent until safety has been confirmed. • What if you need to discuss a grade or personal issue with Ms. Tracy? • All grades and personal issues need to be discussed outside of class. Please set up an appointment either before or after school to discuss any matters. However, feel free to email me at any time to discuss any questions or concerns you might have.
