Problems with the Vietnam War • They (VC/NVA) were fighting for independence • We were fighting to stop the spread of communism • The Vietnamese never left, but US soldiers served a one-year tour of duty and went home • We never held territory • Most Vietnamese wanted the US to leave • Most US soldiers were drafted, not volunteers • The longer the war went on, the less popular it was in the US
