  2. Blessed Junipero Serra • He was born on November 24, 1713 in the Island of Majorca, Petra. • Junipero died on August 28, 1784 in Monterey, California. • Junipero Serra was a devout Catholic. He believed that he could show his faith by suffering like Jesus did. He suffered by pounding his bare chest with a stone then he put a lit torch to his chest.

  3. Sister Thea Bowman Sister Thea Bowman was born in a small, rural town in Mississippi in 1937. She was the granddaughter of slaves, and she was born into a poor family. Ever since a young age, Thea wanted to share the message of God’s love. She did this through a teaching career. She taught for 16 years. Unfortunately, in 1984, Sister Thea Bowman was diagnosed with breast cancer. Although Thea Bowman was extremely sick, she continued teaching in her wheelchair. She continued teaching the message of God’s love until she died in 1990.

  4. Pope John XXIII He was born on November 25, 1881 in Sotto il Monte. Grew up with a family of Share croppers. Pope John XXIII ordained as priest in 1904. In 1918 he was appointed spiritual director of the seminary. He was nominated titular archbishop of Areopolis and apostolic visitation to Bulgaria in 1925. In 1953 Pope John XXIII became cardinal-patriarch of Venice. In 1958 Pope John XXIII was called to Rome to participate in the conclave that elected him pope.

  5. Council of Trent and Problems We Still Have After 493 Years When the Council of Trent meet in the years 1517 until 1545 they meet to deal with some crisis and scandals going on. During the Council of Trent the Emperor Wanted to focus on elimination of abuses; on the other-hand the pope wanted the Council to focus more on the explanation of Catholic Church *doctrine. They decided To do both. The Council Focused a lot on Abuses and it was a big problem and the Problem on abuse is still happening today. Pope Benedict XVI even visited Britain This September to talk about sexual scandals going on in our world today. *doctrine=a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church.
