  1. Château d’Usse • Jackie Lege • French II Period

  2. Information about the chateau • When was the châteatu built? The Château d’Usse was built in the second half of the 15th century. • For whom was the châteatu built? It was built for the Bueil family. • For what reason was the châteatu built? The Bueil family has distinguished themselves in the Hundred Years War, and now sought a new home beffting their new, higher rank.

  3. Three unique features of the château • 1. This castle was the inspiration for the castle in the famous Disney movie, “Sleeping Beauty”, and now is known as the archtypical “fairy tale” castle. • 2. You can rent the chapel on the grounds for a very large sum of money to have a fairy tale wedding. • 3. Along the battlements there is a path that features very detailed wax figures that depict scenes from the story of “Sleeping Beauty”.

  4. Two Important events: • 1. In 1485 it was sold to Charles Espinay who made many improvements to the castle, the most famous being the well-known chapel on the grounds. • 2. Sold to the Count de Blancas in 1885.

  5. My opinion of the château • Why you like the châteatu and where you would have liked to live there or not. I really like this château, because it’s beautiful and elegant, and the fact that it was the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty castle is pretty freakin’ cool.

  6. Château quiz • Five fill in the blank questions and answers about your château • 1. The Chateau d’Usse was built in the second half of the ___ century.(15th.) • 2. In _____ the chateau was sold to Charles Espinay.(1485) • 3. One of Charles Espinays’ most well-known improvements was the _____, which can now be rented out for “fairy tale” weddings.(chapel) • 4. In ___ it was sold to the Count De Blancas. (1885) • 5. The ____ family orginally comissioned the castle. (Beuil)

  7. Personal interest? Well. I think that this is one of the most beautiful castles I’ve seen, espically with the pointy tops. [: I love it. If I lived here, I’d try my best to modernize it as much as possible, by sealing up cracks, indoor heating and air conditioning, electricy, and running water. Personal interest 1

  8. Personal interest 2 • I would also probably rent out sections of the castle as a hotel, because, seriously? That would highly profitable ( imagine staying the night in a castle that had modern comforts).
