  2. Health and pollution • Water fit for human consumption is called drinking water or potable water. Water that is not potable may be made potable by filtration or distillation, or by a range of other methods. • Water that is not fit for drinking but is not harmful for humans when used for swimming or bathing is called by various names other than potable or drinking water, and is sometimes called safe water, or "safe for bathing". Chlorine is a skin and mucous membrane irritant that is used to make water safe for bathing or drinking. Its use is highly technical and is usually monitored by government regulations (typically 1 part per million (ppm) for drinking water, and 1–2 ppm of chlorine not yet reacted with impurities for bathing water). Water for bathing may be maintained in satisfactory microbiological condition using chemical disinfectants such as chlorine or ozone or by the use of ultraviolet light. • In the USA, non-potable forms of wastewater generated by humans may be referred to as greywater, which is treatable and thus easily able to be made potable again, and blackwater, which generally contains sewage and other forms of waste which • requirefurther treatment in order to be made reusable. • Greywater composes 50–80% of residential wastewater • generated by a household's sanitation equipment • (sinks, showers and kitchen runoff, but not toilets, • which generate blackwater.) • These terms may have different meanings in other countries • and cultures.

For drinking • The human body contains from 55% to 78% water, depending on body size. To function properly, the body requires between one and seven liters of water per day to avoid dehydration; the precise amount depends on the level of activity, temperature, humidity, and other factors. Most of this is ingested through foods or beverages other than drinking straight water. It is not clear how much water intake is needed by healthy people, though most advocates agree that approximately 2 liters (6 to 7 glasses) of water daily is the minimum to maintain proper hydration. Medical literature favors a lower consumption, typically 1 liter of water for an average male, excluding extra requirements due to fluid loss from exercise or warm weather. For those who have healthy kidneys, it is rather difficult to drink too much water, but (especially in warm humid weather and while exercising) it is dangerous to drink too little. People can drink far more water than necessary while exercising, however, putting them at risk ofwater intoxication (hyperhydration), which can be fatal. The popular claim that "a person should consume eight glasses of water per day" seems to have no real basis in science. Similar misconceptions concerning the effect of water on weight loss and constipation have also been dispelled.

An original recommendation for water intake in 1945 by the Food and Nutrition Board of the United States National Research Council read: "An ordinary standard for diverse persons is 1 milliliter for each calorie of food. Most of this quantity is contained in prepared foods." The latest dietary reference intake report by the United States National Research Council in general recommended (including food sources): 3.7 liters for men and 2.7 liters of water total for women. Specifically, pregnant and breastfeeding women need additional fluids to stay hydrated. The Institute of Medicine (U.S.) recommends that, on average, men consume 3.0 liters and women 2.2 liters; pregnant women should increase intake to 2.4 liters (10 cups) and breastfeeding women should get 3 liters (12 cups), since an especially large amount of fluid is lost during nursing. Also noted is that normally, about 20% of water intake comes from food, while the rest comes from drinking water and beverages (caffeinated included). Water is excreted from the body in multiple forms; through urine and feces, through sweating, and by exhalation of water vapor in the breath. With physical exertion and heat exposure, water loss will increase and daily fluid needs may increase as well. • Humans require water with few impurities. Common impurities include metal salts and oxides, including copper, iron, calcium and lead, and/or harmful bacteria, such as Vibrio. Some solutes are acceptable and even desirable for taste enhancement and to provide needed electrolytes. • The single largest (by volume) freshwater resource suitable for drinking is Lake Baikal in Siberia.

  5. The deforestation (voluntary or unintentional) is the result of the removal of trees with out sufficient reforestation than there is. There are many reasons for this, which can vary from slow forest degradation to sudden fires, intense grazing. While the deforestation of tropical rainforests has attracted public attention, the torrid tropical forests are disappearing at a rate substantially higher. Deforestation causes decreasing rainfall. This is dangerous! The production of timber can be a cause of deforestation. Forests are important coal reserves, but coal, when burned, pollutes the air and the environment. The forests are also important ecosystems with high biodiversity where many species live. .

  6. To solve this major problem, one must REFORESTATION the environment. A goodexample are the countries of Northern Europe, Sweden, Finland and Norwayhaveincreased by 60% of theirforests by plantingtwotreeswhen he wasshot down one. Itsdietconsistschiefly of vegetablematter, butitalsoeats small animals. Shy and solitary by nature when in the wild, theybecomefriendly and playful in captivity. Only a handfulexist in zoos of the western world, butChinesezooshavereportedsuccessful breeding of theirpandas. Currently, the World Wildlife Fund and the ChineseMinistry of Forestryhavedeveloped a conservation management planthatoutlines 14 new panda reserves and fivecorridorsconnectingpatches of panda habitat.

Toxic and hazardous wastes are classified as all industrial and municipal wastes that contain toxic substances such as arsenic, mercury, chromium and lead.These substances, in quantities or very high concentrations can cause problems to humans.The toxic wastes are gaseous, solid or liquid. There are many issues that surround reporting waste. It is most commonly measured by size or weight, and there is a stark difference between the two. For example, organic waste is much heavier when it is wet, and plastic or glass bottles can have different weights but be the same size. On a global scale it is difficult to report waste because countries have different definitions of waste and what falls into waste categories, as well as different ways of reporting.

  12. Reduce the production of waste is the first thing to do, both personally and politically. The European and national legislation designates it as the first of the objectives to be achieved: despite what has been done very little (as shown by weight and volume of waste). Many companies (mostly foreign) have realized that produce less waste often means saving a lot of money, because they generate less waste means is that the process is more efficient, is that the costs of waste disposal are reduced. State and Regions may legislate banning or taxing excessive packaging, returnable bottles, disposable products, the products more difficult to dispose etc.. You can also give incentives to companies that revise their production cycles to reduce the waste or using the system of returnable containers or encourage those businesses that use methods of sale on tap (for drinks, detergents, etc..) Or bulk products .

  13. Since the mid-1990s,Naples and the Campania region has suffered from the dumping of municipal solid waste into overfilled landfills. The Naples waste management crisis was a series of events surrounding the lack of waste collection in the city of Naples that peaked in the summer of 2008, but it is currently resolved. Reports during the summer of 2008 stated that the problem was caused at least in part by the Camorra, a powerful local mafia based in Campania, who had created a lucrative business in the municipal waste disposal business. Heavy metals, industrial waste and chemicals and household waste are frequently mixed together, dumped near roads and burnt to avoid detection, leading to severe soil and air pollution. Newsweek reported that in October 2010, riots near Terzigno halted garbage collection again in Naples, leading to "overflowing bins and renewed international attention. The riots occurred after the government announced another 3-million-metric-ton landfill would be constructed within Vesuvius National Park; residents, already upset by toxic waste levels at a nearby landfill, were said to believe that much of the garbage going into the new landfill would be "illegally imported by the Camorra" and would be similarly uncontrolled. The newly elected mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris, a former antimafia magistrate, faced the waste management issue from the early days of his mandate. As a result of his efforts, in the period between June and November 2011 the quantity of uncollected garbage in the streets reduced and plan of differentiated waste collection was implemented.
