  4. A Few Examples: Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven. (Proverbs 23:4-5 NKJV) And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." (Luke 12:15 RSV)

  5. Money Is Deceitful! • It has power to possess people while it makes them think they possess it. • It can become the master of man’s soul, and yet make the man think he is master. • Illustration: The Old Greek Legend of King Midas.

  6. Monitoring The Behavior Of The Material Minded • Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:6-10 NKJV)

  7. Warnings To Us Who Desire To Get Rich! • The Danger of Pursuing Wealth! • Do Not Love Money! • But they that are minded to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and hurtful lusts, such as drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil: which some reaching after have been led astray from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (1 Timothy 6:9-10 ASV)

  8. Monitoring The Behavior Of The Rich Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy. Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19 NKJV)

  10. Commands To Us! • Do Not Be Haughty. • Do Not Trust In Wealth For Security. • Be A Generous Person. • As for the rich in this world, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on uncertain riches but on God who richly furnishes us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous, (1 Timothy 6:17-18 RSV)

  11. Beware! • Many have the wrong attitude toward money! • We never read of any people in any age of the world who ever gave less than a tenth of their income to God, and at the same time met the approval of God. • Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry; for which things' sake cometh the wrath of God upon the sons of disobedience: (Colossians 3:5-6 ASV) Definitions from Freedictionary.com 1.
