  2. History • On the northwest coast of North America, the mild climate and abundant natural resources made possible the rise of a complex Aboriginal culture. The people who lived in what are today British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon were able to obtain a good living without much effort. They had time and energy to devote to the development of fine arts and crafts and to religious and social ceremonies. Among the most prosperous of the Northwest Coast peoples were the Haida and the Tlingit.

The In Class Assignment • Step 1: Draw 5 animals that are native to Utah. • Step 2: Pick one animal and draw a larger image on the back side of the same paper. • Step 3: Draw your animal using the Pacific Northwest Native American style. • Step 4: Get image approved by Mrs. Francesconi to receive board for painting.

  6. Final Project • Step 1: Paint board with Gesso (let dry) • Step 2: Darken lines of rough draft image. Put image face down on Gessoed board and rub back of paper to transfer image onto board. • Step 3: Paint in shapes and patterns of your animal with acrylic paint. • Step 4: Fill out Artist Statement and Rubric. Turn in
