  1. Sango Elementary Monday, January 9, 2012 Reading – Our story this week is “The Hindenburg.” The reading skill is recognizing and writing facts and opinions. The vocabulary words are: cruised, hydrogen, explosion, drenching, era, and criticizing. Test Friday. Language Arts- We arebeginning our study of pronouns. This week we will focus on subject and object pronouns. Assessment Friday. Science- Students begin Earth Science. They will define the characteristics of the inner and outer planets, as well asthe stars and constellations. Math Students will spend the month of January solving and interpreting fractions. This week we will find equivalent fractions, reduce fractions to simplest form, and find improper and mixed fractions. Math Superstars Lesson IX is today and Lesson X is due Friday. Social Studies – We will be studying the standards that accompany Chapter 6. A take home test will be sent home Wednesday and will be due on Friday. It is to be completed using what the students have retained this week in class as well as the textbook. I will have the students bring home their textbook Wednesday and Thursday nights. Please check over the test before your child turns it in on Friday. JUST A REMINDER… January 10th- Weekly folders go home. Please sign and return Wednesday. January 11th- Report Cards go out. Please sign and return Thursday. January 9-13th – Yearbooks on sale. January 13th- Kickoff for “City Saver Coupon Books” Fundraiser. January 16th – No School January 17th- Roxy performances at Sango. 5th grade will watch the performance “Happily Ever After” from 10:40-12:00. February 1st- 5th Grade Writing TCAP assessment.
