  3. Objective • Students will be able to identify accomplishments from the Renaissance during the Uffizi Gallery Crawl.

  4. Uffizi Gallery The Uffizi Gallery is a world famous art gallery in Florence, Italy.

  5. Office Space! • The Uffizi's life began 1560 when Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany commissioned Giorgio Vasari to create a palace specifically to house the offices of the Medici family . • The Uffizi gallery was finished in 1581, under Granduke Francisco de’ Medici, son of Cosimo I. • It was constructed next to the Medici Palace. • The space was originally intended for offices (Uffizi means office) and to host meetings for various city and world officials.

  6. However, the Medici had so many works produced. The Uffizi became one of the first modern museums. Granduke Francesco I, made it Europe's first modern museum when he opened it to visitors on request. In 1765 it laid another milestone by becoming the first gallery to open its doors to the general public. Office Space Becomes a Museum

Uffizi – Private Hallway of the Medici • As well as their paintings, the Medici's possessions included part of the grand-ducal collection of statues, jewelery, medals, weapons and scientific instruments, all of which remain on display today. • Various family members, along with the building's architect, are immortalized on the walls of the Vasarian Corridor, which was constructed in 1564 to connect the Pitti Palace with the "offices". • The corridor's niche is self-portraits of the art masters of the world.

Uffizi Gallery Crawl • Today you will discover some of the accomplishments from the Renaissance by completing a gallery crawl through the Uffizi. • Our Uffizi will house many more items than art, included will be literature, photographs, inventions, and many more. • You and a partner will work together.
