  2. What is OPAC? • OPAC is an acronym for Online Public Access Catalogue. • You use OPAC to locate library resources.

  3. Where Is OPAC? • Log-on to any high school computer. • Select the Library Menu. • Click on the OPAC icon.

  4. Once you launch OPAC, you will see this screen. Are you looking for a particular topic? • Type in the general term • Click Subject or keyword. • Type the last name. • Click the Author icon. Do you know the author?

  5. Let’s perform an Author Search for Stephanie Meyer • Type Meyer; click Author. • Information provided includes • Titles the library possesses; • Call numbers; • Book status (Are the books In or Out?)

  6. Hmmm….Do I want a book about Dog Training? People who own dogs? Funny dog stories? What about a Subject Search? • Use a Broad term or word for a subject search; • When you perform a subject search for dog, you will see this list; • Next, you may need to Narrow your choice to a particular topic or resource type (fiction, biography).

  7. But wait!How do I use “Call Numbers”? • Call numbers are the address that tell you where the book lives in the library. • Look at the plaques’ numbers to locate the correct shelves

  8. There it is! • Often, books will have the same number. • To make it easier to locate a book, libraries assign a three letter code beneath the number. • All books are filed first by their number, then alphabetically by the three letter code.
