  1. Dear America :Like The willow tree By Lois Lowry PowerPoint by:Ny’dea Terrell

  2. Summary The book Like The Willow Tree, is about two kids named Lydia and Daniel who loose their family. They loose their mother ,father, and baby sister Lucy to the influenza. When their family dies they call their Uncle Henry who takes them to his house to live there. After a couple of weeks of being at the house he had to take Lydia and Daniel to the Shakers because he didn’t have enough food to give to 10 peopleandthey weren’t getting along with there cousins. When they got to the Shakers they found out it was an orphanage for boys and girls. They also found out that the boys and girls can never do things with each other. When Lydia first arrived, she had met a sister named Sister Jenny. Sister Jenny introduced Lydia to everything and everyone. Sister Jenny also told Lydia that Shakers could not get married. Lydia and Daniel spent their whole life there, but except for Lydia when she was about to become a full Shaker at the age of 18, Lydia went off to study to become a Shaker teacher. She met a man and got married. They had three kids .Daniel stayed there and became a brother.

  3. Questions I ask myself • How come Uncle Henry didn’t come back to the Shakers to visit? • How come Lydia couldn’t keep her grandmothers ring ,but could keep her journal? • What did they do with Lydia and Daniels stuff and house? • How come Shaker’s can’t get married?
