As it is an internet process, a computer with access to a server is a requirement and this process can be completed any time.

  3. How to access the site 1. Once on the internet(double-click Internet Explorer icon) find the white space at the top of the screen 2. Type the web address, which is: www.wikipedia.org into the box 3. You will know if you are successful if the screen looks like this (see next slide)

  4. How to research • English is the preferred language of use, so it has already been selected • Anything that you want to research can be typed into this field Type “banana” Then click

  5. An Article Page • The page will look like this: 4. Now you can read all about bananas

  6. Linking • There are many different processes that can happen while you are using Wikipedia, including the ability to link • After an article has been accessed (see previous process) locate a blue word in the text • Click on the word with your mouse *This action will redirect you to that specific word’s page

  7. A new page will then appear and more information can be gathered • Linking and typing in search words into the blank field can amount to great amounts of knowledge

  8. Conclusion • Wikipedia is a free site that can be updated by users from all over the world. • There is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page available: • Scroll down to the bottom of the “umbrella” page • Click on the link • Click on the link in the article This should provide information about the site. If not, you can always type “Wikipedia” into the search field.

  9. Safety • The site does also allow users to link to outside sites. Do not give out personal information to these sites, as with any random site on the internet.
