  1. The Water Cycle

  2. Water Cycle Evaporationis the process in which water changes from liquid to vapor. Condensation is the process in which water vapor in the atmosphere becomes liquid. Precipitationis the water that falls from clouds.

  3. A divide is a ridge, or continuous line of high land, from which water flows in different directions. A drainage basin, or watershed, is an area into which all of the water on one side of a divide flows.

  4. Water table is the top of the region that is saturated, or completely filled with water. Aquifer is an underground layer of permeable rock or sediment that contains water. It is important because it acts as a filter to filter out bacteria and other living organisms. Aquiclude is a solid impermeable area underlying or overlying an aquifer. A spring is a flow of water from the ground at a place where the surface of the land dips below the water table.

  5. The phreatic zone, or zone of saturation, is the area in an aquifer, below the water table, in which relatively all pores and fractures are saturated with water. The zone of saturation may fluctuate with changes of season and during wet and dry periods. The zone of aeration is a region below the Earth’s surface, above the water table marked by the presence of water and air in the pores of the rocks and soil.

  6. Influent stream is a stream that contributes water to the zone of saturation of groundwater and develops bank storage. An effluent stream is a stream that is fed by seeping groundwater.
