  1. TOTEM Roman Pots Detectors G. Ruggiero (PH/TOT) TOTEM Week – Labiodola (Elba), May 2010

  2. Activities during first quarter of 2010 Jan ’10 Today • Consolidation works during technical stop. • Reference frames replacement • Low Voltage Distribution • Upgrade of vacuum system and calibration • Roman Pot Motors and movement calibration • Control commissioning with DCS • Advance/Complete the commissioning of the Detector System • Run and control the system services with DCS • Readout commissioning with DAQ • Control loop power-up and test (CCUM, DOH…) • FE hardware probing and programming • r/o tests with CalPulse Scans and Sensors ON • First tests with active trigger • Test of connectivity • Test of the S-bits and CC outputs • First data taking with active trigger • Latency scan

  3. The Roman Pot System in IP5 The overall status of the system is OK noisy/dead channels in the two stations (only ~1.3% of noisy/dead channels) only ~1.3% of bad channels Readout test and data taking 1st Technical Interventions in the tunnel (sect. 56) For the first tests of the trigger signals from the RPs, due to a mistake in the initialization, several GOHs were damaged. 16th of March Problem solved with the replacement of the damaged GOHs done during 3 short accesses 25th of March All the GOHs are fully functional 2nd Technical Interventions in the tunnel (sect. 45) Loss of the control Loop in the RP Station 45_220m 9th of April Problem isolated during short access with 3 out of 6 “pots” back in the control loop -for this sector data taking with beam started only on these 3 “pots” Problem found (faulty connection) and solved during last technical stop 27th of April Now the whole RP Station 45_220m in the control loop -25 C tech. stop -28 C -30 C Temperature in the 56 far top “pot” in the last 3 weeks

  4. 1st data taking with active trigger • Test done the 22nd of April • All “pots” in garage position, data taken with 9 pots out of 12 • LV1A if at least one candidate track in any of the “pots” • (candidate track: coincidence of hits in 3 out of 5 planes & beam) • Beam status: squeezing tests; • Fill1055, I(B1)~2*1010 and I(B2)~3*109 • Latency scan in steps of 8 clock cycles • (VFAT and CC monostables stretched • to 8 clock cycles) • Trigger Rate < 0.1 Hz • For any LVA1 at least one track 56 far 56 near Events with hits in at least 3 planes (%) 45 far Latency (clock cycles)

  5. One event in the online monitor (I) Reconstructed Tracks v projection u projection 56 near top 56 near bot. 56 near hor.

  7. 2nd data taking with active trigger Test done the 17th of May Fill 1107, I(B1) and I(B2)~1.2*1011 All “pots” in garage position Mainly: Latency scan in sector 56 >>LV1A if at least one candidate track (one pot per time) (candidate track: coincidence of hits in 3 out of 5 planes & beam) Finer latency scan (VFAT and CC monostables stretched to 4 clock cycles)

  8. (Plots as in the E-log)

  9. 3rd data taking with active trigger Test done the 19nd of May (from 5.00am to 7,30am) Fill 1112, I(B1) and I(B2)~1.4*1011 Fill 1107 All “pots” in garage position Mainly: Latency scan in sector 45 LV1A if at least one candidate track (one pot per time) (candidate track: coincidence of hits in 3 out of 5 planes & beam) VFAT and CC monostables stretched to 4 clock cycles

  10. Latencies vs LV1A distribution LV1A over the Control Loop 6th 1st

  13. Preparation of the RPs at 147m In view of the installation of the stations at 147m for the winter long technical stop (Dec’10/Jan 11). • Preparation of the System/Services • Mainly work in the tunnel • Cabling testing • Modification of the cooling pipes • Production of new Detector Packages • Commissioning of the DPs in H8 • Upgrade of the H8 testing facility Work ongoing during the short monthly technical stops

  14. Production of new Detector Packages or the stations at 147m DP 13th has been assembled/tested >>ready for testbeam DP 14th has been assembled/tested >>ready for testbeam DP 15th in assembly DP 16th < all hybrids with VFATs/Sensors available Assembly/testing of hybrids continuing... Cicorel is completing the production of the PCBs (delivery announced end of June).

  15. Upgrade of the RP Testing facility in H8 • Objective: • DCS Replication of the System in IP5 • Overlap two DPs on the beam line to test simultaneously • Useful also for further studies on RPs upgrade Mechanical assembly with overlap of the sensors from two DPs on the H8 beam axis beam  Complete the upgrade of H8 by the end of May. Decrease the overall testing time for the next 12 DPs Extend the testing period of each single DP.

  16. Upgrade of H8 (with PH-DT and Vic’s group) • Cables produced, being laid now • Mechanic support ready (see photo) • Cooling patch panel/pipes in preparation • LV power supply being delivered • (Marathon trailer?) It will use the TTCci now in that lab (ex) 555, i.e. Motherboard Tests, DAQ tests affected!!!

  17. Summary & Outlook RPs @ 220m RP detector system is in very good shape Latency studies finalised for all 12 Pots Next tests with beam: Collimator setup with the RPs for absolute position calibration Data taking with RPs inserted *** System/Services in the tunnel for the new Pots in preparation Production of Detector Packages for the stations at 147m ongoing H8 facility in preparation RPs @ 147m
