  3. Step One: Be Realistic • What is the purpose of your goal? • Do you believe in the plan?

  4. Step Two: DETAILS • Make sure that your goal is Specific • Identify what you must do to reach your goal • List the actions!

  5. Step Three Balance • Can you measure your goal? • Seek to balance the actions, don’t try to achieve too much at one time!

  6. Step FourSupport • Seek out positive people to encourage you! • Be accountable to one person…

  7. Step FiveChart your course • Make sure you have clear directions • Alternative plans should be included

  8. Step Six Celebrate ! • Plan for rewards • Stay focused on the positive • Don’t forget.. As John Dewey says: “Arriving at one goal is the starting point to another”!!!

  9. Example of an Educational Goal • I will complete the requirements of Introduction to Education and pass the class with a B or better on December 16, 2010.

  10. Example of a Career Goal • I will complete the required training to obtain a license as an Elementary School Teacher by May 2013.

  11. Example of a Personal Goal • I will improve my stamina by exercising at least 30 minutes each day for one month.
