  2. Qu’est-ce qu’une verbe infinitive? Whatis an infinitive verb? • An infitiveverbis a verbthatis not in anytense or « untouched ». • In English • The verbwith « to » in front of it • To speak, to eat, to listen • En Français • The verbwithitscompleteending; in our case an « er » ending • Parler, manger, écouter

  3. Les verbes en le présent • To use a verb in the presenttense, conjugate the verbaccording to the subjectpronounthatisbeingused. • The verb in the presenttense and the subjectwillalwaysstaytogether. • [subject + verb in presenttense] • [ je mange] • [ tu parles] • [ils organisent]

  4. Verbe + Infinitif • To express twoverbstogether, the fistverbwillbeconjugated in the presenttense and the second verbwillalwaysbe in the infinitive (end with er). • J’aime danser • Je déteste chanter • Wecanstudy – Nous pouvons étudier

  5. Rappelez-vous! • If there are twoconsecutiveverbs in a sentence, the first verbwillalwaysbeconjugated (itsendingwill change) and the second verbwillalwaysremain in the infinitive form (itsendingwill not change).

  6. Activité • Write 6 two-word sentences • Each sentence must have a differentsubjectpronoun • Chooseeither « aimer » or « détester » to use in each sentence. Make sure that the verb has the correct verbending.

Activité • For the first sentence, choose a verb to put in the infinitive to complete the sentence. • Possible verbs to use: • Chanter • Danser • Organiser • Manger • Parler • Etudier • Ecouter • Jouer • Dessiner (to draw) • Dormir (to sleep) • Marcher (to walk) • Regarder la télé • Poser une question

  8. Activité • Stand up and SILENTLY walkaround the room. • By using NON-VERBAL communication, find a buddy to complete one of your sentences. Whenyoufind a buddy, switchpaperswiththem. Write the verbyouwrote for your first sentence in one of their sentences and theywill do the same for you. • Whenyou have all of your sentences completewith a subject and 2 verbs, take a seat.

  9. La négationMaking a sentence negative • To make a sentence negative, put « ne » before the verb and « pas » after the verb. • Before a vowel (or h), nebecomesn’ La Formule ne + verbe + pas

  11. In the negative, the indefinite articles un, une, and des change to de or d’ if the followingwordbeginswith a vowel. • Julie regarde un CD • Julie regarde une vidéo • Julie regarde des photos • Stephan ne regarde pas de CD • Stephan ne regarde pas de vidéo • Stephan ne regarde pas de photos.

Questions: est-ce que • To ask a question thisway, begin the sentence withest-ce que. • The sentence structure remains the same. • This is a slightly more formalway to ask a question. • que becomesqu’ if the followingwordbeginswith a vowel or h. • Ex: Est-ce que tu aimes ce classe? • Est-ce qu’ils mangent déjeuner? • Est-ce que tu danses?

Questions: Inversion • To ask a question thisway, switch the order of the subject and verb and connect the twowith a dash. • An extra –t- is added between the verb and the pronoun when the verb ends in an -a or -e • Aimes-tu ce classe? • Mangent-ils déjeuner? • Danses-tu? • Parle-t-elle française?

  16. Questions: n’est-ce pas • To ask a question thisway, end the sentence withn’est-ce pas. • The sentence structure willremain the same. • This isequivalent to the English isn’tit? or right? • Tu aimes ce classe, n’est-ce pas? • Ils mangent déjeuner, n’est-ce pas? • Tu danses, n’est-ce pas?
