  2. About Us!! Welcome to aussiepublicholidays.com we have created this site to provide clearer and more accurate public holidays information to Australians and those planning their travels to Australia. Our site provides information for the whole nation and gives the reasons particular holidays are given plus some short interesting background information.

  3. School Holidays 2016 and 2017 The dates of school terms and holidays in Australia are determined by the respective education departments of each state and territory. And, while each jurisdiction follows the same four-term-per-year model, the start and end date of each term can vary by more than a week from state to state.A very popular school holiday period of the year for travel is the autumn break, which is between Term 1 and Term 2 and usually coincides with Easter. Equally popular for travel is the Christmas/Summer school holiday break that generally runs for 5-6 weeks – the longest break in the school calendar.

  4. Public holidays in Australia are either national or state based. Our National Public Holidays are New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. All other public holidays such as Queen’s Birthday and Labour Day are individually declared by the state and territory governments. If a holiday falls on a weekend it’s up to each individual state to decide if the holiday will be moved to a working day. Generally, states make the following Monday a substitute holiday. There are a few exceptions and you will need to check the individual state on our site. Traditionally, employees, whether in the public or private sector, were entitled to take off a public holiday with regular pay. In recent years this has started to change. For example, businesses that are normally open on a public holiday may request employees to work on the day.
