  2. Background -Indiana was a part of cohort 1 -Why cohort 1? -USED Approval February 2012 -Approval through 2013-2014 School Year -USED issued option for one year extension to all SEAs

  3. Goals of Flexibility as Outlined by USED -Allow states to request flexibility on behalf of itself, its local educational agencies (LEAs), and its schools; in order to better focus on improving student learning and increasing the quality of instruction

  4. Goals of Flexibility as Outlined by USED -will provide educators and State and local leaders with flexibilityregarding specific requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) in exchange for rigorous and comprehensive State-developed plans designed to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction.

  5. Goals of Flexibility as Outlined by USED -flexibility is intended to build on and support the significant State and local reform efforts already underway in critical areas such as transitioning to college- and career-ready standards and assessments; developing systems of differentiated recognition, accountability, and support; and evaluating and supporting teacher and principal effectiveness.

Let’s talk about it in the near future. By the way, congratulations on where you guys have gotten.  Regardless of what it looks like on paper, I’m making sure everyone knows you all are on the right track.”
