  3. Typical legacy? • Love • Inheritance / Will • Money • Property • Possessions • All are good – but insufficient

  4. People need the Lord Everyday they pass me by, I can see it in their eyes. Empty people filled with care, Headed who knows where? On they go through private pain, Living fear to fear. Laughter hides their silent cries, Only Jesus hears. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. When will we realize, people need the Lord?

  5. People need the Lord So our Legacy should consist of….. • Not only love, • Not only possessions, but mainly…. • Pushing them toward Jesus!

  6. Imagine • Emergency Broadcast System – not a test • ICBM inbound – 23 minutes • Central GA target – no survivors 100 mile radius • Family outside blast area • Phone call • What would you tell them? Josh chap 23 – tells us what to say

Josh 23:3 (NASB) Remember the great things God has done! • Good things come from God! • Jas 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. • Without God: we would be nothing / have nothing

Keys to Leaving a Great Legacy 4 "See, I have apportioned to you these nations which remain as an inheritance for your tribes, with all the nations which I have cut off, from the Jordan even to the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun. Josh 23:4 (NASB) Remind them of their heavenly inheritance • 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:3-4 (NASB)

Josh 23:5 (NASB) Remember, God will give you victory! • He will give you success. You will be victorious • 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Josh 23:7 (NASB) Do not get trapped by the world! • 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 (KJV) • 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God; for He has prepared a city for them. Heb 11:16 (NASB) • Don’t focus on the world!

(Why?) • 9 "For the Lord has driven out great and strong nations from before you; and as for you, no man has stood before you to this day. • 10 "One of your men puts to flight a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, just as He promised you. Josh 23:8-10 (NASB) Hold on to the Lord because He has proven Himself worthy! • and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." Rev 5:11-12 (NASB)

Josh 23:11 (NASB) Always Love the Lord • Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. Matt 22:37 (KJV) • 20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. 1 John 4:20 (NASB)

Keys to Leaving a Great Legacy 12 "For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations, these which remain among you, and intermarry with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, 13know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue to drive these nations out from before you; but they will be a snare and a trap to you, and a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you. Josh 23:12-13 (NASB) Warning: God does not bless those who follow the world.

Keys to Leaving a Great Legacy 12 "For if you ever go back and cling to the rest of these nations….. , 13know with certainty that the Lord your God will not continue Josh 23:12-13 (NASB) Warning: God does not bless those who follow the world. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality , impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21 (NASB)

Keys to Leaving a Great Legacy 14 "Now behold, today I am going the way of all the earth, and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning you has failed; all have been fulfilled for you, not one of them has failed. Josh 23:14 (NASB) Every word of God is true and will come true! • 18 "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Matt 5:18 (NASB) • 35 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.Matt 24:35 (NASB)

Keys to Leaving a Great Legacy 15 "It shall come about that just as all the good words which the Lord your God spoke to you have come upon you, so the Lord will bring upon you all the threats, until He has destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God has given you. 16 "When you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them, then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you will perish quickly from off the good land which He has given you." Josh 23:15-16 (NASB) Final Warning: Do not turn away from serving God. • 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Ex 20:3 (KJV)

Legacy Summary • Be intentional about leaving a legacy • Remember the great things God has done! • Remind them of their heavenly inheritance • Remember, God will give you victory! • Courageously Keep and Do God’s Word! • Don’t get trapped by the world. • Hold on to the Lord because He is worthy! • Always love the Lord • God does not bless those who follow the world. • Every word of God is true and will come true! • Final Warning: Don’t turn away from serving God

Where the money and will is hidden. • Most of all: Tell them about Jesus • John 3:16 • Believing means: Mt 4:17, 19, Rom 8:13 • Path to Salvation: Rom 10:9-10 • 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; Heb 10:23 (NASB) • 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. Heb 11:10 (NASB)

  21. Some might say “I don’t have a legacy to leave ” You can have a legacy – starting now! • Great legacy begins with faith in Jesus • Acts 16:31 • Then remember Mt 20:1-9 – the Story of a Guy with nothing… until Jesus stepped in.

  22. 1 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning (6 a.m.) to hire laborers for his vineyard. 2 "When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. 3 "And he went out about the third hour (9 a.m.) and saw others standing idle in the market place; 4 and to those he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' And so they went. 5 "Again he went out about the sixth (noon) and the ninth hour (3 p.m.), and did the same thing. Matt 20:1-5 (NASB)

  23. 6 "And about the eleventh hour (5 p.m.) he went out and found others* standing around; and he (Jesus) said to them, 'Why have you been standing here idle all day long?‘ 7 "They said to him, 'Because no one hired us.' He said to them (I’ll hire you), 'You go into the vineyard too.‘ 8 "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last group to the first.‘ 9 "When those hired about the eleventh hour came, each one received a denarius (a full day’s wages) .
