The journey – so far! • 1992 Incorporation of colleges • 2000 Learning and Skills Councils • 2001 Foundation Degrees • 1995 -2005 = 35 major policy reviews of FE System • 2005 Foster Review – focus on FE Colleges and role in HE (rec. 69-73) • 2006 Raising skills and Improving Life Chances (White paper) • 2007 FE Bill and 2007 Leitch Review • FE Bill – linked to Public Sector reform agenda …………..so where do we go next?

HE in FE • 14% of Hi delivered in FECs • 63% of HE students in FE are on sub-degree programmes (HNC/HND/FDeg); • 30% of students are on degree programmes; • 7% of students are on post-graduate programmes. • FDeg: 48% PT; 52% FT; 65% over 21 • 28% of FDeg students come from an area of deprivation • Directly funded colleges =3.5% (£135M)
