  10. The American dream turned Nightmare ~The Donner party is the name given to a group of pioneers. ~They became trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, In the winter of 1846-1847

  11. The Donner Party Path of travel ~Reached Fort Bridger, and were persueded to take Hastings cut off. ~This caused many delays and hardships. ~A trail had to be made through the Wasatch Mts. And an 80 mile desert had to be crossed. ~3 deaths thus far.

  14. Winter in the Sierra Nevadas, 1846-1847 ~80 people reached the base of the steep summit, and discovered it was snow covered. ~Forced to turn back. ~Party Stranded, made camps on the trail ~Attempts made to cross the mountains

  15. Rescue and Remains ~Feb. rescue party reached the encampments ~Not everyone could be taken out, few supplies, many dead already ~Survivors had begun to eat the dead ~Last survivor rescued in April

  16. Survivors ~5 died before reaching the Sierra Nevadas ~83 people were trapped, 44 survived to reach California. ~Number dead-28 males, 8 females ~Survived-20 males, 24 females
