  1. Delegated Review Process As a reminder, experiments may not commence, until you have received written notification from the IACUC office that the experiments have been approved. • The protocol or modification (the “proposal”) is submitted to the IACUC by: • Email (iacuc@einstein.yu.edu), or • Interoffice mail (Van Etten 468). • Please note that all original signatures will be required on final version of animal use protocol in order to obtain approval. • The proposal is entered in the database and assigned a unique number. • The Animal Welfare Officer abstracts the proposal for the “Summary” field in the database. At this time a determination is made as to whether the proposal must go to “Full Review” or if it is eligible for “Delegated Review”. • Summary of proposal is sent to the IACUC members by e-mail to determine if protocol will be designated to “Full Review” or “Delegated Review”. Any one IACUC member can request “Full Review” of the proposal. Should that happen, See “Full Review Process”. • If proposal is designated to “Delegated Review), it is assigned to one or more reviewer(s). • A copy of proposal is sent to reviewer(s) and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S). • EH&S provides the reviewer(s) with their comments and/or request for revisions. • The reviewer(s) sends a letter to the PI outlining revisions required by IACUC and EH&S. • PI submits revised proposal. Go to step 7 through 8. • If revision does not address concerns of reviewer(s) and EH&S, step 10 is repeated. • If revision addresses concerns of reviewer(s) and EH&S, the proposal is approved. • An approval letter will be sent to the PI. • If at any point the PI fails to submit a revision, please see : “What happens if PI fails to submit revision?“ below. What happens if PI fails to submit revision? • A reminder notice is sent to PI requesting revisions within two weeks. • If revision is not submitted a second reminder is sent requesting revision with one week. • If PI still fails to submit revision, proposal is considered “Withdrawn”. • PI will have to resubmit proposal and review process will start from beginning.
