  2. To inspire and challenge all learners and prepare them for the future. • The only extended opportunity students get to experience the world of work • The focus is on the following skills and attributes: - Employability and Key Skills - First hand careers education and guidance - Vocational opportunities - Personal and social development - Understanding of wider subjects and topics

  3. The context • Government changes – No longer funding work experience • Local Authority changes – No longer Facilitators • School changes – Timing, period, examinations • Organisational changes – Connect South West

  4. THE PROCESS • PLANNING • MONITORING • FOLLOW UP

  5. Letter/Leaflet/First choice form • Log book – which stays in school until the placement • dorset.learnaboutwork.net • Applications can be returned from 4th October onwards • Return to Year Office or Mrs Aylmore

  6. Application and blue form sent to the employer • ONLY when the blue form is returned to school is the placement confirmed • Students will be encouraged to visit/ telephone their placement nearer the time

  7. OUT OF AREA CHOICES • These are possible but if they are not within the remit of Connect South West ( The placement service) such as Hampshire or London then a charge of £25 will be made. • No new placements for London will be accepted after Friday 2nd December 2011 • Other out of area placements will not be accepted after 23rd December 2011

  8. CHANGING YOUR MIND! • This is an issue and we will need to begin the process again • There will be a £30 charge for this • Unless it is as a result of a company withdrawing its support

  9. A NEW PLACEMENT • Students need to collect an orange form from Mrs Aylmore • Write the new placement details on the form – the company must agree in advance– verbal or written communication should be attached to the form • Employers must have Employer Liability and Public Liability Insurance • This is not a “wish list” • The form is sent to Connect South West who arrange assessments • We have no control on the timing of visits and they cannot be requested after 3rd February 2012

  10. THINGS TO CONSIDER • Transport – distance and cost • Be sure of your choices – remember the cost • No holidays are authorised during this period • Companies can change their mind • Other schools are competing for places so students need to be decisive and organised

  11. BEFORE AND DURING THE PLACEMENT • Mrs Aylmore will be available every morning, break and lunch time and if necessary will call students out of lessons to provide support • saylmore@corfehills.net • A member of staff will contact your son/daughter before the placement starts • They will be visited by a member of staff during the placement and talk to the employers and your son/daughter
