  3. THON is the largest student run organization which raises money all year long to help find a cure for pediatric cancer.

  4. A Short Overview I. THON is a yearlong event. II. THON is the largest student run organization in the country. III. It is an organization that helps to raise Money for pediatric cancer.

  5. About THON! • ♦THON first began in the year 1973 • ♦Started off with ONLY 39 dance partners – Today there are 708! • ♦1973 they raised $2000 • ♦Last year THON raised around $7.8 million • ♦ This year we raised $9.5 million dollars! • (THON Penn State IFC/Pan-Hellenic Dance Marathon)

  7. Four Diamonds Fund ♦ People can donate to the Four Diamonds Fund ♦ Covers the costs of … ♦ Medical Bills ♦ Supports the medical team that treats the kid ♦ Raises money for pediatric cancer research (THON Penn State IFC/Pan-Hellenic Dance Marathon)

  8. THONwouldNEVERbe possible if it weren’t for all of the student volunteers!

  9. How many people are Involved in THON? As of last year there were approximately 15,000 volunteers and 700 dancers that took part in the two day dance marathon. (Schlechter)

  10. Like a business? “We’ve developed positions, removed positions, expanded our number of volunteers and participants,” said Caitlin Zankowski.

  11. Michael Nilsen also said, “To get a lot of college students to run what is essentially a small corporation is really outstanding.”

  12. Even though THON has over 15,000 volunteers they have to work yearlong to raise all the money they do.
