    3. Habitat Found especially in temporary ponds Quiet, relatively still waters Ex: River backwaters, lakes, creeks, and swamps Preferred habitat includes mud or sand bottom with vegetation

    5. Endangerment Humans are the main reason for endangerment Draining of wetlands Pollution/pesticides Urban runoff Farming Killed on roads From animals: eggs and young are eaten or attacked by predators Migration

    6. What has been done? State and Federal programs in Illinois have set a precedent Very little happening in Missouri in the way of conservation Attempts being made to push through programs, but little success One of the successes was simply putting it on the endangered species list Other states doing much more for the turtles
