  5. Electronic Report Card The purpose of the report card is to communicate and document the progress of students throughout the year. In addition, it provides parents with specifics as to identifiable concerns. Report Cards are issued quarterly. The first report card is provided at a Parent Conference in November. Thereafter all report cards will be available in hard copy by special request through the main office and electronically on Power School. To remain apprised of their student’s progress, parents are encouraged to regularly check Power School throughout the school year. Can be accessed each quarter through: PowerSchool: Parent Logon The Power School link can be accessed at www.mtsinai.k12.ny.us.

  6. Attendance Policy Research has demonstrated that there is a direct link between attendance and performance outcomes. Students should be encouraged to come to school every day - and on-time. As per building protocols, absences and tardiness will be brought to the attention of Building Administration. Students arriving after 9:10 am must obtain a late pass at the Main Office and present this pass to their teacher in order to be admitted to class. The following reasons for student absences from schools are recognized as valid: personal illness, illness or death in the family, impassable roads or weather making travel unsafe, religious observance, medical visits, required court appearances. Any other absence is considered unexcused. Each absence must be accounted for. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify the office on the morning of the absence. It is essential that parents provide a written excuse for each absence. Such excuse should contain the reason and date of absence, and be presented to the student’s teacher upon return to class. Excessive tardiness and absences are not conducive to good work habits or learning. Parents should make every effort to have their children in school every day and on time. If a child exceeds three unexcused tardies or absences, building administrators at their discretion may assign consequences. The building principal will send letters home quarterly to the parents of children who are continually/excessively tardy or late. Please refer to the Code of Conduct for additional information.

  18. Homework Homework is given each night. HW should take no more than 30 minutes to complete. Parents – please initial HW notebook DAILY! • Homework provides excellent opportunities for developing good study habits, providing for individual differences and abilities, and encouraging self-initiative on the part of the student. • Parents and the school share the responsibility for student learning. Parents can assist their children with homework by: • Providing a study area free of distractions and with good lighting • Asking questions about the content of student homework • Giving requested assistance, but letting the student do his/her own work • Avoiding undue pressure • Helping create a “homework habit” at the same time each night • Parents should encourage and monitor homework assignments.

  19. Extra Help • I am always available for you and your child! Please call or send in a note to set up an appointment.

  20. Rewards & Discipline First Things First! Students are rewarded for their cooperation, enthusiasm, and excellent questions! However… Kids will be kids. This means that they will make mistakes. This is a part of learning. ALL STUDENTS BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A “CLEAN SLATE”. Believe it or not… I LIKE your children and want them to be SUCCESSFUL!
