Survey of attitudes toward Online Classes and Use of Social Networking websites The 3 (arbitrarily contrived) hypotheses: People 0-29 years old will be more likely to believe that the use of online classes will increase over the next 20 years but not become as common as in-person classes. People 30 and up will be more likely tobelieve that the use of online classes will increase dramatically over the next 20 years and be about as common as in-person classes. • "The older a person is, the less he or she will use social networking tools like Facebook to keep in touch with people." * *This Hypothesis is taken from the Application section of Module 7

  2. To evaluate these Hypotheses, the following survey was created and administered to 20 people at the Student union on Tuesday March 9th 2010:

  4. Hypotheses 1 & 2: Online Classes We see from the previous slide that people 30 years old and over make up 4 out of the 20 participants. That’s just 20%. This makes results for first 2 hypotheses rather invalid. The results themselves showed that both groups on average were pretty much neutral on the statements relating to the first 2 hypotheses, making results inconclusive anyway. What little results I have directly appose my first 2 hypotheses. the older age group slightly disagrees with statement 2 (that classes will be mostly online) and the younger group slightly agrees. The older age group slightly agrees with statement 3 (that most classes will still meet in person) and the younger group slightly disagrees. Interestingly, the older group is more favorable towards online classes in general (statement 1). See the nest slide for results of the age groups on statements 1-3.

  5. Hypothesis 3: Social Networking The 3rd hypothesis is another story; it seems to hold up rather soundly. Comparing the 0-19 age group to the 20-30 age group (these two age groups make up 80% of the data, 30% and 50% respectively) we find that the 0-19 year olds agree more with having a social networking account than the second oldest group and they uses them more often.
