  2. TYPE 1: February 7, 2013 What is a saying or oft-quoted remark you associate with Mom or Dad? What does the remark mean? Why do they say it? What does the remark reveal about this parent?

Which type of quote are you analyzing? • Find an essential quote (any text of three lines or more) that illustrates an important character trait of the protagonist in your PCR book. • What is the subject or topic of this quote? What is the quote about? • 3. Whose words are you quoting? Who is speaking? • 4. Where in the book does the quote occur? • 5. What is the context of the quote? (What does someone need to know in order to understand your quote?) • What does the quote say or mean in your own words? • 7. How does the quote offer specific insights into the characters, the plot, and/or theme of the novel or nonfiction book? • 8. How is the quote personally relevant or important? • 9. How is this quote a significant clue that the reader needs in order to understand the novel or nonfiction book?

  5. To Kill A Mockingbird Number 1’s: Review pages 243 to 247 in order to understand what Scout says on page 247. Number 2’s: Review pages 232 to 237 in order to understand the last two paragraphs on page 247 and what they say about Scout’s personality.
