  4. Fish processors in Nova Scotia were buying lobster from Maine Processors agreed to purchase lobster for $2.50/lb and $3/lb for market fresh lobster Local fisherman need at least $4/lb to break even

Democratic Representation and participative management • Equitable access to general resources • Promoting the traditional knowledge of fish harvesters • Recognizing the respective governmental responsibilities in the fisheries • Defending the interests of the inshore fleet when confronted with other fleets and governments • Sustainability of the resources for future generations Union Initiatives

  6. Union offers members a “top-up” when prices are low in order for fishermen to still make a reasonable profit • This in not offered to Native fishermen so some union members choose to forgo the top-up until government allows for native fishermen to be eligible Criticism of the Union

  7. Do you feel that the native fishermen should be given the top-up benefits that MFU members are receiving even though they are not union members? ? Question
