  1. SDSC Archive Plans TeraGrid Roundtable 07-02-09

  2. SDSC Will Retain TG User Archived Datathru June 2013 • Assuming PY6 extension is approved, SDSC’s archive will be funded only through Jan 2011 • We are offering to retain “HPC legacy” archival data from TG-allocated users till June 2013, ~2.5 years beyond funding • Effective Aug 09 thru Jan 11, new data can be stored only with a storage allocation (via start-up or TRAC request) • Previous storage allocations would be honored and Dash users can be accommodated; but new requests for storage not from Dash simulations would be limited. • Unless additional funding is identified, “read-only” access to legacy data after Jan 2011 • Will need sufficient time in advance of June 2013 for appropriate disposition of the data – what that is depends on what happens in the interim towards a long-term solution.

  3. SDSC will consolidate to a single archival system and migrate all user data to that system • SDSC will consolidate from 2 archival systems (HPSS & SAM-QFS) to one (SAM-QFS) in the coming months • A news posting to users will go out next Monday 7/6, with pointers to more information • We will request all users to specify which data must be retained • This is an opportunity to prune files, especially for large users • HPSS will go read-only starting ~end July • SDSC staff will migrate HPSS data to SAM-QFS • Critical for resource management • Migration will be in batches; there will be a hiatus period (~1 month) where a user can not directly access their data (emergency requests via SDSC staff) • Success-oriented schedule is to complete migration by end 2009 • We will provide documentation for users to access data under SAM-QFS • Any new data (e.g. TRAC “data” allocations) will be under SAM-QFS, effective August 2009
