  3. 1. Provide an overview of what happened on d day. • D day, If you do not know what d day is, it was the most vital invasion in ww2. Normandy was a vital target to win ww2. The code name was operation Neptune. It occurred on the 6 June 1944 and the planning began at 1943.

  4. 1. Provide an overview of what happened on d day p2. • One of the main problems was the weather, it was not ideal for a sea invasion. There were bombers and bombardments from 3 battleships 8 cruises and 28destroys bomb the land were the Atlantic wall was. The force included 150,000 Allied Troops that went up to 1.5m over the next six weeks. They attacked Normandy just after midnight. Allied troops and tank divisions attacked the cost of France.

  5. 2. What weapons did the two sides use? • The two forces use lots of different type of war machines some very weird here are some now, the M4A4 Sherman tank that was a heaver unit than others, the Mark IV Churchill Crocodile tank this type was a flame thrower with burned whatever it needs, the M4A2 Sherman III Duplex Drive tank this was a submarine tank. A NaziTiger tank, one more the Panther tank. Here are the planes, Hawker Hurricane a fighter, and the Flying Fortress, here are the Nazi planes, Henkel 177 Greif, the Fokker Wolf.

  8. 3. What were the casualties for d day. • Here are the numbers that how many people died or went missing or wounded. Germany 30.000 killed 80.000 wounded and 210.000 missing, United States 29.000 killed 106.000 wounded and missing, United Kingdom 11.000 killed and 54.000 wounded or missing, Canada 5.000 killed and 13.000 missing or wounded, and finally 12.200 dead missing or wounded civilians. The total number dead was 550.000 very high.

  9. 4. Who won the battle and why. • The allied forces won the battle by making up a fake 4th army. The Germans had 13 divisions and they were really scared but the Germans had the 15th army held at Pas de Calais region waiting for an attack by the equally army. First United States Army Group (FUSAG). The two army’s fought in the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day.

  10. 4. Who won the battle and why p2 the German strategy. • The German went well because of different factors. The main was mainly tanks, antitank units, troops, and artillery all played a part in the battle of Normandy. The infantry armed with antitank weapons were placed in strategic points in the battle. Also they put up towers fitted with antitank weapons or 88mm Flak guns but was not good because that American ships could bombard them. Artillery had an important role to play in German defensive plans not as a tank-killer, but as a means to force Allied commanders to close down inside their tanks, there by reducing their visibility so that the tanks got lost from their troops. The Germans used heavy artillery to make the allied troops to take cover so that tank hunting units can be deployed. In the end the allied troops won the beach and ending up winning the war.

  12. 6. What was the Atlantic wall ? • The Atlantic wall was a line of bunkers along the cliffs on the beach. They were filled with heavy rifles and artillery. The wall was a big obstacle in the invasion. Hitler ordered the concrete that what would have made an actual wall went to defending Hitler’s submarine bases. Rommel was a inspector. Rommel inspected the beach defences and found them altogether inadequate. He immediately set to building improvements, mine fields all over the beach, and putting iron spikes and wooden obstacles like tree trunks. The wall were many different types of fortifications like some are built into the ground, and some built on the top of the ground, and some are cannons.

  13. 7. What happened on the following beaches Utah Omaha gold juno and sword • All of the beaches had a different plan. Utah Beach was the code name for the right flank or westernmost, of the Allied landing beaches during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. Utah was added to the invasion plan toward the end of the planning stages, when more landing craft became available. The primary objective at Omaha was to secure a beachhead. Gold lay in the area assigned to the 50th (Northumbrian) Infantry Division commanded by Major General Douglas Alexander Graham. The Juno landings provided flanking support to the British drive on Caen from Sword, as well as to capture the German airfield at Carpiquet west of Caen.

  14. 8. When was d day • The date of d day was 6 June 1944.
