  2. Daily Writing: The Most10/08/12 Choose one prompt to respond to and explain with detail: • The most fun I’ve ever had . . . • The most disappointed I’ve ever been . . . • What are you looking forward to the most?

  3. Monday: Agenda/RemindersSlide 1/4 • Does anyone have group grades or notebook to turn in (due last Friday)? • Reminder: Book talk is due THIS THURSDAY! • Quiz (comma, semicolons, and vocab I and II) • 7A: two groups present that didn’t get a chance last week. • Start novel study – pre-reading writing due tomorrow. Half the class will read Hoot, and the other half the class will read Tangerine. Then we’ll switch! • There will be another, short, reading quiz on Friday. It will cover: • Literature terms we’ve covered • Reading

  4. Monday: New ProcedureSlide 2/4 • New procedure: • I will say “SLANT” and count to five with my fingers. If one or two students aren’t slanting, only those students will receive extra homework. If it’s more a couple, I will assign the entire class extra homework. • All extra homework assigned is due the next day. Late policy applies to extra homework (75% credit through the following Monday, 50% after that). • Absent students are required to complete the extra homework.

  5. Monday: New ProcedureSlide 3/4 • If we get through a class, and I don’t have to assign any additional homework… • I’ll stop class 5 minutes early, we’ll put our books away and clean up, and then play a game or just socialize.

  6. Monday: QuizSlide 4/4 • NO TALKING! Keep your eyes on you own paper! • If I suspect cheating, you will receive a zero. • When you’re done, raise your hand, and I will take it from you. Work on your pre-reading writing due tomorrow. • 7A: When everyone’s done, the remaining two groups will present.

  11. Tuesday: Novel Study • Does anyone have extra HW to hand in? • Assign book numbers – Can’t take these home YET. I still need a few more copies. • Get into small book groups. What do good groups look/act/sound like?? • First 5 minutes, share/discuss your pre-reading answers. • Silently read. You should have the first 6-8 pages read by the end of the period. • Write down where you left off in your planner. • Journal title: Characters in [Hoot/Tangerine] • Write down the names of each new character you meet in the novel. • Write a 3-5 sentence description of each character (What do they look like? Describe their personality.) • Due Friday what you don’t get done in class. • Book talk due Thursday! Don’t forget the book jacket.

  13. Wednesday: Narrative WritingSlide 1/2 • Does anyone have extra HW to hand in? • Character descriptions in your journal due Friday. Let me know if you need to check out a novel. • Book talk due TOMORROW! Be prepared and don’t forget the book jacket!

Wednesday: Narrative WritingSlide 2/2 • Hand out/explain planning & rubric (double sided) • Planning is important! 20 minutes of planning • Using your previous brainstorming writing, you will create a comic strip narrative. • 1st frame, create a “title page” that begins the story. • In the remaining 5 frames, plan out your narrative that correspond to the intro, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. • Share with a partner/get feedback. • Work on Comic Strip Narrative DRAFT due Friday. • Write/draw in PENCIL. Do NOT add color or pen. We’ll add color next week. • Write neatly. • Under each picture, make sure to write a caption that summarizes the event(s) that are detailed in the scene. • Book talk due TOMORROW! Be prepared and don’t forget the book jacket!

Read first 8 pages of assigned novel. • Due tomorrow: • Plan AND draft of comic strip. • Character descriptions in your journal. • Give me your rubric with your name on it before you present.

  18. Friday: Quiz • Hand in your comic strip narrative assignment due today. • Does anyone have any homework to hand in? THESE EXTRA ASSGINEMENTS DO AFFECT YOUR GRADE! • Hand back Monday’s quiz and other homework. • Quiz! NO TALKING! If I suspect cheating, you will get a zero. • If you’re done early, work on your vocab due Wednesday. • Book talks: Once a quarter instead of once a month.
