  4. Overview • WAO Student Survey • Primarily derived from the Minnesota Student Survey • Addition of questions from other surveys • Modified to be shorter and quicker • Tailored to grant measurement needs

  5. Overview • Grant is measuring: • Past 30 days of use • alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana (chewing tobacco added) • Perception of risk involved with use • Perception of parental disapproval of use • Average age of onset of first use for tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana (not examining today)

  39. Take Away Messages • 50% of 12th graders reported using alcohol within the past 30 days of the survey • Chewing tobacco use rates are high, especially for older students. • Cigarette use by 12th graders was low at 8.5% (state average=25.6%)
