  16. Speaker Credibility • Definition: • An audience’s perception of a speaker’s competence, trustworthiness, and dynamism. • Importance: • Motivates the audience to listen

  17. Types of Credibility • Initial • Listener’s impression BEFORE you start speaking. • Derived • Listener’s impression AS you are speaking. • Terminal • Listener’s impression AFTER you have finished speaking.

  18. Activity • Form a dyad • Pick partner #1 and partner #2 • Partner #1 come to the front • Partner #2 don’t peek! • Partner #1 will instruct #2 • Have fun!

  20. Preparing Your Speech • Specific Purpose- “what you want the audience to do with the information AFTER your speech” • State general purpose • Name your intended audience • State the goal of your speech
