  2. In this session we will cover…. • Getting to know & contacting your teacher • Announcements • Getting started, and navigating in PowerSpeak • Non-graded and graded assignments • Short essay and verbal test questions • How to be successful in this course

  3. Brenda M. Hernández-Asenjo I was born in Cuba and my parents were of Spanish descent. I have been teaching for the last 22 years and 12 of them online.  I have a B.A. in Romance Languages and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership. I have developed and taught all French and Spanish courses.  I have even taught them to my 6 kids which are my most challenging students!  Yes, that is correct a teacher and a mother of six! So I know what you mean when you say you are busy. I am also a trainer and creator of Clark County School Dirstrict’s First Online Certification Program for teachers. I have presented at national conferences and have taught students as far as Malasia. I lived in Las Vegas for 36 years and just moved to Reno this summer. Now we can go four wheeling in the snow and camp and boating every weekend! That is how the Hernández family rolls!

  4. Sometimes I will put announcements in Powerspeak. You will find these in Communicate.

  5. Here is your calendar. It is very important that you check when assignments are due.

  6. There are several assignments in Power-Speak which require reading, listening, and practice but you will not have to submit them for a grade. PLEASE spend some time on these since they are a vital part of the building process for developing fluency.

  7. Once the symbols are available again to use for your writing assignments, there will be an Omega symbol to click on to access all characters when you need to implement accents. It will be at the bottom right hand corner of the box.

  8. You will find the Teacher/Student Messages here. Anytime you have questions please use the Messages. This symbol will enable you to type accents and other characters you will need to write in French

  9. You have two ways to check your grades. In this screen, you can see that you can check that all assignments have been graded. In the one following, you can see your final grade.

  10. How much time should I expect to spend on French? • You should be spending Mon-Fri about 60 minutes on classwork. • Each day, try to incorporate: • Listening • Reading • Comprehension • Writing • Speaking Ca va?

  11. Surviving (and succeeding) in PowerSpeak classes… Keep up with the calendar! Print out Vocabulary lists & Pattern pages Repeat activities Try everything Have FUN & don’t get stuck on what you DON’T know! Ask questions!

  14. Now what? • Now… log into your course, and begin working on the Lesson of the day, so you are caught up! • The goal is to complete 5 Lessons/week OR however many Lessons you need to finish by the deadline set by your school.
