  1. Domain PHB SetsSpecification & LDAP schema R. Cohen, A. Zavalkovsky, N. Elfassy Cisco Systems draft-ronc-domain-phb-set-specification-00.txt R. Cohen, Y. Snir, J. Strassner Cisco Systems draft-ronc-domain-phb-set-ldap-rep-00.txt

  2. General • Extends the Core and QoS Policy Information model and schema. • Represent a set of PHBs enforced on a QoS Domain • Mechanism independent specification • Manage the scheduling and buffer resources shared between the set of PHBs enforced together on a Domain

  3. Purpose of PHB Set Specification • Administrator needs to choose standard set of PHBs to use per DS Domain • Needs to tune parameters of PHBs with respect to each other • Tuning should be done on the PHB Set as a whole since each PHB needs to share bandwidth and buffer resources in each device • Describes abstract representation of set of PHBs and minimal set of parameters for their tuning

  4. PHB Set LDAP Spec Overview • Provides a mapping to a form that can be implemented in a directory that uses LDAP as its access protocol • Extends QoS Schema to model PHB Sets • Consists of • qosPolicyPHBSetAuxClass - used to carry global parameters for all PHBs • qosPolicyPHBClass - structural class to represent each PHB in the set; these are contained in the class that the qosPolicyPHBSetAuxClass is attached to

  5. Examples of Use • In particular, allows tuning of EF, AF and best effort PHBs parameters. For example: • Tune the relation between AF11 and AF12 • Tune the bandwidth reserved for best effort compared to AF2x PHBs. • Make sure EF rate is limited to X per hop and does not starve the other PHB enforced on the domain • Select DSCP used for each PHB • etc.

  6. Notes • Predefined PHB sets kept in repository • A PHB Set selected per QoS domain • Consistent PHBs enforced end to end • Allow fine tuning of PHB set parameters per named policy container

  7. Usage • A PHB Set selected per QoS domain • Consistent PHBs enforced end to end • Further fine tuning allowed per QoSPolicyNamedContainer
