Mrs. Sessions’ Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter September 30 – October 3, 2013 • Boot Scootin’ News • A few reminders: • Open House (Parents Only) – Monday, Sept. 30 • – 6:00 p.m. • Individual School Pictures – Tue., Oct. 1 – • dress clothes (no jeans) • Popcorn Pajama Party – Wed., Oct. 2 – wear pajamas to school with tennis shoes. • Pink shirt and jeans day for Breast Cancer – Send $1 donation – Thurs., Oct. 3 • Parish Fair Day – No School – Fri., Oct. 4 • Read to your child nightly! • Please remember to send your child’s snack daily or a class snack once a month. • Show and Tell is on Thursday this week. What We’re Learning • Math- Unit 2 – Counting and Cardinality • Count to 30 • Count objects in a set • Count a given number of objects • Connect a given number of objects with a corresponding • numeral • Count to answer questions about as many as 10 objects • in any arrangement • Represent a number of objects with a numeral • ELA – Unit 2 Friends – Key Skills • Letters Pp – letter and sound recognition • Reading Story – Friends All Around • Begin to recognize that spoken words are represented in • written language by specific sequences of letters • Listen and respond to a story • Use photographs to get information • Identify author and illustrator and define role of each • Read and identify high-frequency words • Listen for and match initial sound /p/ to letter p • Write Pp; Write lists to compare two things • Orally blend sounds /P/, /a/, and /m/ • Recognize rhyme • Categorize words with the same beginning sound • Social Studies/Science • Fall/Apples Homework • Review sight words each night! • Read a book each night! • Reading: Read “I Like” book to your parent. • Writing: Trace and complete the sentence “My friends and I____ together.” Draw a picture to match the sentence. • Handwriting: Pp page, site word page • Math: Number 4 page. Follow directions on the bottom of the page. • Cut out number cards and put in order. Do this each night. • Write the missing numbers page. • Language: Phonics: Pp – page 47 & 52, Compare and Contrast – page 48, Phonemic Awareness – p • Return all homework on Thursday this week. • Have a great weekend!
