  1. Violence against women A FeminISH presentation created by Edoxie Allier , Christian Ludt and Gabriel Morantes A quick review of what women are going through, everyday.

  2. What is violence? • According to the Oxford English Dictionary, violence is described as “ a behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage or kill someone”. • Violence is a recurring problem. Starting with insults and ending with mutilation, violence against women is treated with silence, as violence against women is common and acceptable in some cultures.

  3. The issues • Female genitalia mutilation (also known as female circumcision) • Domestic Violence

  4. Female genitalia mutilation - FGM is a “medical” practice which involves removing (literally) a woman’s outer genitalia - Approximately 74 million women are affected by this issue worldwide - It is routinely done (as a “womanizing ritual”) in Africa and some places in Asia.

  5. The number of women suffering because of the FGM’s around the world represents the total population of these countries Poland Belorussia Estonia Lithuania Latvia Finland Sweden Norway

  6. Domestic Violence • Domestic violence and emotional abuse are behaviors used by one person in a relationship to control the other. • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women—more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. • Women whose partners are mistreating them tend to keep their abuse from their friends and family a secret, in an attempt to protect their spouses.

  7. Countries where domestic violence is used. • Cambodia • Colombia • Dominican Republic • Egypt • Haiti • India • Nicaragua • Peru • Zambia

  8. Percentage of the victims of domestic violence between men and women

  9. Conclusion • This has been just a fraction of all the abuses women are faced with every day • Under no circumstances should anyone’s beliefs lead or connect to violence • Now that you are aware about these things, are you planning on taking action?
