  1. Multicellular life cycle By Kim MacRoberts AndAustin LeClair

  2. vocabulary • Zygote- the cell that results from the fusion of gametes and creates a fertilized egg(Zygote) • Gamete-is a haploid reproductive cell that unites with another haploid cell reproductive cell to form a zygote • Ovum- fully matured egg • Sperm- the male gamete • Diploid- a cell that contains two haploid sets of chromosomes • Life cycle- all of the events in the growth and development of an organism until the organism reaches sexual maturity.

  3. Diploid life cycle Most animals have a diploid life cycle. all the cells except the gametes are diploid. A diploid germ cell in a reproductive organ goes through meiosis and forms gametes. Fertilization is when the sperm and egg gamete join together they result in a diploid zygote, which basically massing cells to create another human.

  4. Meiosis and gamete formation Males produce sperm gametes and produce two cells which in meiosis then produces two more cells out of each of the two cells thus left with four cells that each change form into a sperm cell. Female animals produce gametes called eggs or “ova”. A diploid germ divides into two uneven cells, one has most of the cytoplasm the other cell called the polar body because it is very small and has little cytoplasm the polar body could divided again but the offspring will die. In meiosis two it divides again and polar body also divides again and the other cell once again divides and its unequal and so your left with one egg cell and three polar bodies

  5. questions • What is a diploid life cycle? • What is the difference between spermatogenesis and oogenesis? • How many gametes are formed from one female germ cell?

  6. Diagram of gamete formation
