Intro Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

  3. People will fall away if they have no strong root, or their • faith is strongly rooted in something or someone else! • The person who does this does not make their faith their own. Rom. 14:11-12, 22 11. For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD." So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Intro Do we have the faith of our fathers or faith of the Father? Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

  4. II Kings 14:3: He did right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father; he did according to all that Joash his father had done. • II Kings 14:1-4: Amaziah(Son of Joash, King of Judah): • His faith was like of that of his father’s (Joash). • Joashhad killed the priest’s son and listened to his counselors who advised him to leave God! (II Chr. 24:20-22) • He allowed the people to continue to act corruptly. • He did right, “yet not like David his father” (I Sam. 13:14) • II Chr. 25:1-2: He did not follow God with a whole heart (Vs. 2). • II Chr. 25:14-16: After defeating the Edomites, he served their gods and would not listen to God’s prophet! Faith in Father’s Religion Leads to Apostasy Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

  5. II Kings 15:3: He did right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done. • II Kings 15:1-4: Azariah(aka: Uzziah – II Chr. 26:1): • He did right before God according to what his father (Amaziah) had done. • The people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. • II Chr. 26:3-5: As long as he sought after God, he prospered. • II Chr. 26:16-21: The blessings God gave him made his heart proud and he became unfaithful and acted corruptly! • When opposed by the priests, rather than be remorseful and repent, he became enraged (26:19) and the Lord struck him with leprosy! (II Kings 15:5; II Chr. 26:21) Faith in Father’s Religion Leads to Apostasy The Lord gave Azariah a hard lesson in humility: No one is so great that he does not have to answer to God! 6. II Kings 14:1-4: Amaziah(Son of Joash, King of Judah) II Kings 15:1-4: Azariah(Son of Amaziah, King of Judah) Faith in Father’s Religion Leads to Apostasy One can’t rely on the faith of their parents to be justified before God! Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

  7. Mk. 7:9 9. He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. • Mk. 7:6-13: • Pharisees were “experts” at setting aside law of the Lord for their traditions. • Many people today do that as well! • They would rather cling to something they were taught by their parents or denominational teaching, and disregard what is said in the Scriptures. Cannot Just Follow Traditions of Men Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

  8. The one who does not stand on own convictions before God will fall away when the trials of life come – Lk. 8:13 Rom. Good parents can be a good standard (as was David), but ultimately, one will stand or fall based upon who they are rooted in: parents (not always godly) or God! Cannot Just Follow Traditions of Men Every person will give an account to God for their deeds, not the deeds of their parents! Faith Of Our Fathers, Or Faith Of The Father?

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word. 10. With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments. 11. Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You. 12. Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes. 13. With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Your mouth. 14. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. 15. I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. 16. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word. Must Commit Whole Heart to God Mt. 22:37 (Deut. 6:5) 37.
