  2. El Preterito So far, you have worked with the present tenses in Spanish. There are 2 past tenses in Spanish. We are going to learn the preterite tense.

  3. The Preterite Tense The preterite is used for talking about actions completed in the past.

  4. Preterite of regular - AR verbs To form the preterite of a regular –AR verb, you drop the -AR, then add the correct ending to the stem. When you drop the –AR of the verb, you are left with the stem. Hablar -> Habl Comprar -> Compr

  5. Preterite of regular –AR verbs

  6. Aguas (careful!) This tense can be tricky because the accents are so important and really change the meaning = Hablo = I talk. Habló = He/she talked.

  8. Cocinar – to cook
