  6. Kemp’s Ridley Turtle • Most critically endangered species in the world. • Live mainly in the Gulf of Mexico • Nest on a 20 kilometer beach: Rancho Nuevo, N.E. Mexico • Found in shallow waters where a lot of crabs live. • Different from the Olive Ridley by its: • parrot-like beak • Flatter- almost completely round carapace • Carapace is the turtle’s shell

  7. Threats to Kemp’s Ridley Turtles • Main Threat: • Shrimp Trawlers that work where turtles feed. • Turtle accidently gets caught in shrimpers nets. • ~ 500 to 5000 die like this every year. • Nests are easy to find: • Too many eggs are harvested • Humans & Coyotes
