  2. What Can Motivate Me? Personal preference Perceived Resources Comfort and Ease Personal Benefit

  3. What Motivated Jesus? His Father’s Will The Needs of People Around Him Love But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. -Romans 5: 8

  4. Commitment As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem. -Luke 9:51 They devoted themselves. . . -Acts 2:42 For to me, to live is Christ. . . -Philippians 1:21 Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him; -Job 13:15

  5. Beware of refusing to go to the funeral of your own independence. -Oswald Chambers Paul became a sacramental personality; wherever he went, Jesus Christ helped Himself to his life. Many of us are after our own ends, and Jesus Christ cannot help Himself to our lives. If we are abandoned to Christ, we have no ends of our own to serve. -Oswald Chambers

  6. Engaging My World As you are going, make disciples. . . -Matthew 28:19 I must be committed to permeate my world in response to my created identity, commissioned purpose, and called equipping for service.

  7. When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die. It may be a death like that of the first disciples who had to leave home and work to follow him, or it may be a death like Luther’s , who had to leave the monastery and go out into the world. But it is the same death every time—death in Jesus Christ, the death of the old man at His call. . .Discipleship. . .is nothing else than bondage to Jesus Christ alone, completely breaking through every programme, every ideal, every set of laws. No other significance is possible, since Jesus is the only significance. Beside Jesus nothing else has any significance. He alone matters. -Dietrich Bonhoeffer

  8. It is high time that the ideal of success should be replaced by the ideal of service. -Albert Einstein Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. -Romans 12: 1-2 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. -Proverbs 3: 5-6

  9. The Call of Love. . . This is my command: Love each other. -John 15:17 . . .let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. -I John 3:18
