  5. CAMPC PEDIATRICS • What? • Sufficiently detailed history • Focused, accurate physical exam • Problem-oriented approach • Differential dx and plan • Case Presentation (oral and written) • Read about your patients (excellent way to learn!)

  6. CAMPC PEDIATRICS • How? • First contact with outpatients and newborns • Precept with Attending Physician • Participate in discussions with families • Review educational materials • How long? • 4 weeks

  7. Common clinical topics • Well child care • Growth and development • Immunizations • Examples of common general pediatric problems • Acute gastroenteritis • Pharyngitis • Otitis media, sinusitis • Rashes • URI, influenza • UTI • Asthma, wheezing, pneumonia

  9. Professionalism • Examples of situations that merit loss of professionalism points include: • Unexcused absence • Failure to attend Mid-Clerkship Review session with completed forms

Pediatric Resources • CAMPC Handbook • CAMPC Pediatric Clerkship website • Recommended textbook: • Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics (online at HSLS/MD Consult), OR • Nelson Essentials of Pediatrics (Behrman / Kliegman) • Discussion of cases with Preceptors • Telecasts of Ped Grand Rounds & Resident Noon conferences (when possible for Oakland students)

  13. Other Expectations • Prepare for each day • Arrange transportation • Each week, email to Marlynn Haigh names of preceptors (faculty, senior residents) • Solicit feedback • Complete Evaluations of Preceptors • Regularly update Learning Logs • Prepare for Mid-Clerkship Review
