  2. Group Readings, Grade 6 • T.E.K.S 1 2 A,B,C,D,E 6 A,B,C 10 A,B,C,D 11 A,B 12 A,B

  3. Students • This lesson will be for my sixth grade students, ESL. Also to the gifted and talented or with disabilities students, if there are any in the classroom.

  4. Objectives • To allow students to make predictions about a text they are reading based on pictures, names etc. • To help the students construct meaning as they are reading text, providing them with the ability to make sense of the required reading. • For students to process their reading and extend meaning after they have completed a given text. • Then students reveal knowledge and understanding of texts through their responses on quizzes and tests, and as well as discussions.

  5. Materials • Prepaid phones for podcast assignment • Computers • USB Cables • Books • Pictures and name cards

  6. Sequence of lesson plan • The students will be assigned to a small group, depending on their level of reading. • They will be assigned a book with the same author but different stories. • They will be given a set of pictures, words, and genres and they will try to predict what this story is about, what is going to happen, etc. • They will read out loud into a phone provided by the teacher to create their own podcast.

  7. Cont • After reading the text and making it into a podcast, they will have the chance to re hear themselves once again and see if they missed anything the first time reading it. • They will be asked to then to write a discussion into their blogs they have created in the beginning of the year, to see if all the group has the same idea, and so later the rest of the class can read it too.

  8. Cont • The teacher would then provide an online quiz for the group to answer that pertains to the text they have read.

  9. Evaluation • After the assignment I would be able to hear all of the individual groups podcast and read their blogs they have posted of the material they read. Reading and hearing this would give me an idea on how some students are doing with their speech, reading, understanding of vocabulary. I can then take further action if I needed to, in order to help a student.
