  1. A Boy At War By: Harry Mazer Alan Brown 10th grade English Mrs. Kim Reddish

  2. Adam moved a lot because his dad was in the military. The teacher thinks Adam is trying to be smart, but Adam is trying to explain he’s moved to several places. Adam doesn’t like being the new kid. “The teacher was in the middle of the lesson. Adam stood in front of the class while Mr. Handler interrogated him.”

  3. The teacher thinks Adam is lying about where he is from. “Now answer the question. Your hometown, your place of origin, please.”

  4. The teacher thought he was lying when he told him where he was from. He told him from Adam’s Center and the teacher wouldn’t believe him because he had never heard of it and it wasn’t on the map. “Adam’s Center and your name is Adam? Are you pulling my leg?”

  5. “Adam searched their faces, looking for his father, but they were too far away to be seen clearly, he scrambled up the ladder after the officer.” One of the army ships is on fire and the soldiers are leaving the ship and Adam cant find his father.

  6. “This is high school. bad enough that he was registering late– it was already November and the term was half over.” This quote describes Adam in a school setting with students and building and in the fall season because its November.

  7. “The sky is black were the Arizona had been. He could hear the wind. The boat rode up and down with the waves.” The setting is describing Adam out in the ocean at night.

  8. “Sun high, almost no shade anywhere, the sky as blank as a sheet of paper, as if smoke and planes--- the attack itself—had been erased.” This describes that they had a war but it cleared up so it seems like nothing happened.

  9. He was sorry the minute he said it. It sounded so phony and super patriotic, as if he were going to snap his heels together and salute the American flag standing in the corner of the room.
