  6. Sydney Region Sydney Region ICT initiatives -2- Fileserver installations in 2005 A number of schools have had Windows, Apple and Novell fileservers installed this year. Sydney Region has installed more than 40 Windows 2003 fileservers this year as part of the first stage of standardisation of systems across the Region. There is a core DET, Sydney Region standard structure that needs to be maintained on these fileservers. In order to maintain a supportable server structure it is required that schools contact School Support to discuss any proposed change to the installed structure.

Sydney Region STEMS in Sydney Region • Following the consultation of Principals and CCs about STEMS and a further meeting with SASS staff in Sutherland, STEMS was announced by the Regional Director in Week 7 of Term 3 • The availability of clerical relief was also offered • NSWTF Council voted to ban it due to “no consultation and no resources” • PSA voted to ban it due to “no consultation and no resources” • On Nov 1st, NSWTF Executive reversed the ban • As at Tuesday 22 November, a total of 104 K-6 have submitted their STEMS data electronically

Sydney Region STEMS in Sydney Region • The transition details of a total of 4,190 students have been received • Virtually all schools described the STEMS process as “easy” – formal evaluation coming shortly • The closing date has been extended until Wed 23rd November • High Schools can expect to receive their cohort of STEMS data by Monday 29th November • High Schools will be provided with instructions on how to be use the STEMS data to benefit new students arriving at their school

Sydney Region STEMS in Sydney Region • Schools that have NOT completed STEMS for whatever reason should support their year 6 students by providing transition information to their high schools in some other form • STEMS will NOT go ahead in 2006 unless ALL schools agree to participate and there is up-front clearance from NSWTF and PSA. The Regional Director has agreed to work towards this • There will be a session today showing the findings from the STEMS 2005 process

Our thanks to you all for your prompt response Please note that in late Term 3 2006, invoices will be sent to cover the Term 4 2005 day and the Term 1,2,3 days in 2006.

  12. Sydney Region Sydney Region ICT initiatives -6- T4L update – Rollout in Sydney Region The 2005 small schools rollout has been completed. This concludes their rollout until 2009. An advance on the 2006 rollout was provided to High Schools during Semester 2 2005. It is currently anticipated that the majority of allocations will be in Semester 2 of 2006. Planning is currently underway for 2006. In order to take best advantage of your rollout and other ICT investments (cabling in particular), please contact the Technology Advisers to discuss planning of your ICT infrastructure.

Sydney Region Commonwealth Grants- INVESTING IN OUR SCHOOLS http://www.dest.gov.au/sectors/school_education/programmes_funding/general_funding/capital_grants/iios/default.htm#Approved_Grants_for_Round_One_2005 ICT submissionsIdeally ICT submissions will be undertaken in consultation with the Technology Advisers and/or Regional Manager, IT Services and will comply with regional infrastructure standards for support and connectivity to existing networks. All proposed computer purchases should comply with departmental hardware standards and the NSW Treasury requirement that computer equipment be purchased with a four-year warranty. 2006 Applications In 2006 there will only be one round of applications per State/Territory. School communities will be able to apply in that round for projects of any size up to the $150,000 limit.  (Projects funded in the 2005 rounds must be included in this limit.)  The 2006 online application form will be available from early in the New Year.The 2006 opening and closing dates for each State and Territory are as follows: New South Wales: Opening date 12 February 2006 Closing date12 April 2006
