  4. Locating a crash record • There are two primary methods for locating a crash record • Lat/Long co-ordinates • Road Location • Whichever method is used the user should consider what analysis needs to be performed.

Why locate against a road network • It is the fundamental base of any transportation system • It is the real world situation • It is the way engineers think • It is the qualifier for analysis & queries • E.g. how many fatalities on Route 66 • It is used to integrate data • E.g. roadway characteristics • Allows improved analysis

  6. But I don’t have a network location Many Organizations are implementing GPS receivers to locate crash data. So how do you locate against a road network if you only have a Lat/Long? “The system should provide the ability to snap to the network”
